What determines truck freight price in Saudi Arabia?

By Mirabk teamUpdated 3 min read

Freight price is shaped by several factors together: the distance between pickup and drop-off, the truck type and payload that suits the cargo, how the cargo is packaged and handled, and waiting time at the site. On Mirabk these factors are calculated automatically so you see one upfront price before you book.

Why do two shipments over roughly the same distance end up priced differently? Because price isn’t built on distance alone — it moves with several factors together: truck type, the cargo itself, loading time, and even the odds the truck comes back empty. This guide walks through each factor plainly, with no figures or ranges, so you understand why a price looks the way it does, not so you can calculate your own.

Distance and route

The distance between pickup and drop-off is the first and clearest factor — the longer the route, the more time the truck and driver spend on the road. But distance alone doesn’t set the price; the nature of the road itself (a direct highway versus one that runs through congested urban areas) also affects the actual trip time.

Truck type and payload

Every truck type has a different maximum payload and running cost. A reefer truck carries extra refrigeration equipment, a lowbed for heavy machinery needs special loading setup, while a small Dyna is lighter and simpler to run. Choosing the truck that matches your cargo’s size and weight — not the biggest one available, nor the smallest — is what keeps the price fair to what you’re actually moving.

Cargo and how it’s handled

Loose cargo that unloads by tipping a bed is different from packaged cargo that needs a forklift or crane to load and unload. Goods that need an enclosed box truck or a curtain-side trailer to protect them from sun and dust are different from a load that can travel on an open flatbed. How the cargo is handled decides the truck type, and the truck type is part of the price.

Waiting time at loading

Every booking includes a free loading window at the pickup point. If the cargo and the equipment needed to load it are ready when the truck arrives, the trip runs as planned. If the truck and driver wait past that window, a waiting charge applies — the one factor that can change the price after a booking is confirmed.

The risk of the truck returning empty

A truck that carries cargo to a city or area where it rarely finds a return load costs more than a trip on a route that’s active in both directions. Anyone who has worked in freight for years knows this: the outbound leg alone doesn’t set the cost — the odds of the truck returning loaded or empty factor into it too.

Get your upfront price in the app

Instead of estimating these factors yourself, choose the truck type and set the pickup and drop-off points in the Mirabk app, and the app calculates all of them automatically to show you one upfront, VAT-inclusive price before you book — no negotiation, no surprises later.

Frequently asked questions

Is distance the only factor in the price?

No — distance is a core factor, but it's calculated together with the truck type, payload, cargo handling and waiting time at loading, all of which feed into the one price shown before booking.

Does the price change after I book?

The price does not change after you confirm a booking, except for a waiting charge, which applies only after a free loading window at the pickup point ends.

Why does the price differ for the same distance with a different truck type?

Each truck type has a different payload and running cost — a reefer truck or a lowbed costs differently to run than a small dyna, even over the same distance.

How do I know my price before booking?

Set the truck type and the pickup and drop-off points in the Mirabk app, and an upfront, VAT-inclusive price appears immediately, before you confirm the booking.
